The entrance exam at 16+

Maths (60 min), English (60 min including an argumentative/persuasive piece of writing), General paper (70 min that includes a multiple choice question paper as well as an essay section). Successful candidates are invites for interviews that will cover a general part and three subject part in accordance with provisional A level or IB subject choices. Offers are made in December. Exams are in November. Registration deadline – mid-October. Open day – September 2020.

The entrance exam at 16+

Accept only 30 students every year, many of which are bursary-funded. Exams cover a Maths paper, a English paper in two parts: a personal reflection essay and another part designed to test a quality of ideas and arguments and written ability and a General problem solving and Critical thinking paper. Successful candidates are invited for interview.

All candidates will be required to take four hour-long exams:
English Literature (HL or SL depending on the candidate’s IB subject choices)
Maths (with an additional 30 minutes for HL candidates)
Science This new paper assesses candidates’ scientific aptitude through questions on Biology, Physics and Chemistry. There is no expectation that students are currently studying all three sciences.
Thinking Skills This new paper assesses candidates’ reasoning skills and ability to make a coherent written argument. Candidates answer on one of the following subjects: history, geography, philosophy, economics, psychology, languages (modern & classical), music, theatre or art history.
